Expanding Creative Pathways with Education Programs in 2026
At Photo Opp, photography is more than an art form—it’s a way to tell stories, build confidence, and connect with the world around us. Through our growing lineup of educational programs, we’re helping young people explore photography, videography, and other visual arts while developing creative and technical skills that can last a lifetime.
Our organization offers programs focused on education, career development, community engagement, and the arts. Each class, workshop, and collaboration is designed to bring people together and strengthen our community through creative expression.
Whether someone joins us for a workshop, attends an event, or participates in one of our youth programs, they become part of a larger mission: uplifting stories and supporting local arts and education.
Photography as a Tool for Learning
Photo Opp’s educational programming focuses on youth and young adults, providing hands-on experiences that make visual storytelling accessible and engaging. Students learn how to translate ideas into images, understand the fundamentals of photography, and build confidence in their creative voice.
Educators who have partnered with Photo Opp have seen firsthand how photography can unlock new forms of expression for students.
“Students were able to blend the expression of their ideas, verbally and textually with a thoughtful, artful vision of a visual interpretation of those words and ideas, and then bring the vision to full photographic execution with the assistance and facilitation of Photo Opp’s volunteers and experts. I cannot emphasize enough the incredible cross section of preparedness, connection, and pathway to completion that Photo Opp’s help was able to bring to the project—which was as a result simultaneously rich and efficient, which is the absolute sweet spot in an educational endeavor to be sure.”
— Katherine Chicquette, English Language Arts Teacher, Appleton Central
Our 2026 Education Programming
In 2026, Photo Opp is expanding opportunities for young creatives through a variety of partnerships and programs across the Fox Valley.
Elementary Classroom VisitsOur classroom visits are designed to help educators bring the art of photography into their lessons. Using Appleton Area School District teacher-designed curriculum, photography becomes a tool for learning subjects like geometry, fractions, and emotional storytelling—showing students that art and academics can work hand in hand.
High School Field TripsHigh school classes can visit the Photo Opp space for a two-hour immersive photography experience. These hands-on field trips introduce students to key photographic concepts, camera techniques, and creative exploration in a professional studio environment.
4-H Photography WorkshopCreated in response to a need within the 4-H community, this workshop gives members the chance to develop photography skills while preparing entries for their county fair photography competitions. Each session combines a group lesson with one-on-one coaching to help participants refine their work.
Boy Scouts Photography WorkshopPhoto Opp will host a photography workshop for a local Boy Scouts troop, teaching the fundamentals of photography and helping scouts complete the requirements to earn their Photography Merit Badge.
Youth GO After-School ProgramThrough an eight-week after-school partnership with Youth GO, students learn photography fundamentals including composition, camera operation, studio lighting, and introductory editing. Their final work will be showcased in a Downtown Neenah exhibit opening in May 2026, giving students the exciting experience of sharing their art with the public.
Building for Kids Summer CampPhoto Opp will return to the Summer Explorers Camp with our popular PHOTO BINGO program, an interactive activity that teaches photography fundamentals while encouraging curiosity and exploration. Our 2025 sessions were a huge success with more than 100 campers, and we’re excited to bring it back for another summer of creativity. We are excited to be partnering again this Summer!
FART Workshop (Feel. Ask. Refine. Take.)Designed for ages 8–12, the FART workshop introduces young photographers to the core steps of the photographic process:
Feel – noticing what draws your attention
Ask – thinking about the story you want to tell
Refine – adjusting your composition and perspective
Take – capturing the image
Through this playful and approachable framework, kids learn that photography is both a creative process and a way to better understand the world around them.
Join Us in Supporting Creative Education
Every program at Photo Opp exists because of the support of our community—educators, volunteers, artists, and supporters who believe creativity should be accessible to everyone.
When you participate in our programs, attend an event, or join a workshop, you’re helping sustain opportunities for young people to discover photography, share their perspectives, and develop skills that can shape their futures.
Together, we’re building a creative community where stories are uplifted, connections are made, and the next generation of visual storytellers can thrive.
