A Big Step Toward Opening Our Community Darkroom
Solving One of Our Biggest Darkroom Challenges
When we started building our Community Darkroom, we expected plumbing, electrical work, and equipment to be some of our biggest challenges.
We didn't expect one window to become one of the hardest problems to solve.
For most spaces, blocking light is as simple as hanging curtains or installing blackout shades. But a photographic darkroom isn't "mostly dark." It has to be completely light tight. Even the smallest amount of stray light can fog photographic paper and ruin prints.
We tried traditional blackout methods and looked at several blackout blind options, but nothing gave us the confidence we needed. That changed when we connected with Mono Blinds.
Their system gave us exactly what we needed: a true light-tight solution while still letting us use the window when we wanted fresh air and ventilation. Instead of permanently covering the window, we can open the blind whenever the room isn't in use and enjoy natural light and airflow. When it's time to print, the blind closes and creates a complete light seal.
Many products claim to be "blackout," but a photographic darkroom demands true, complete darkness. Mono Blinds didn't just make that claim, they proved it, delivering a 100% light-tight solution that met the standards our darkroom requires.
Installation was simple and straightforward, and the finished product is both beautiful and functional, fitting seamlessly into our space. As an added bonus, Mono Blinds even printed our branding directly onto the blind, turning a functional piece of equipment into something that enhances the look of the darkroom.
What started as one of our biggest obstacles became one of our favorite features.
As we get closer to opening the Community Darkroom, we're incredibly grateful for partners who understand that every detail matters. The right solution didn't just solve a problem, it helped transform the space into something that's both beautiful and functional.
